Disability

I have a condition called Mosaic Down Syndrome which Is originally called Down Mosaicism. It basically means that I have an extra chromosome. Of which I understand it, It limits my understanding of things in general. To what someone would see as simple It may look more complicated to me. I have trouble grasping the concept of things because I'm not aware of everything. In a away I'm scared of the unknown because I don't know much about life as I'm only still young.

The link above gives you more information about the condition called Mosaic Down Syndrome. I can tell you that it breaks up the cells in the body thus being mosaic and we have 47 chromosomes considered to someone who only has 46. These chromosomes are broke up in two and of what I understand it one of these has an extra number thus making it called Trisomy 21. Please be welcome to use these links and read up more about the subject.

I am a media studies student at Hopwood Hall College, Middleton, Manchester. There I was able to make my own documentary and based it on my condition MDS to make people more aware of it. Did you know that there is more awareness of this condition in America rather than England who has more awareness about 'Down Syndrome.

Everybody thinks of it as Downs, where actually it had no 'S' at the end at all. There are 3% of babies born with this condition every year. As to that it is very rare, so because of that I want to make the world more aware about this condition.

Above are links to diagrams of how the eggs are split to make a down syndrome baby.

There is a website link below to a group called MDS UK. These were very helpful and I was able to see my geneticist through this website to ask her different questions about my condition. I was able to find out what I originally knew from before and a few other bits of which I am now clearer.
